The Holiday Inn Express in Stony Brook will host a tasting featuring the culinary stylings of dozens of restaurants and markets in the Three Village and surrounding area at 5:30 p.m. on September 23, 2013.

The event, a Taste of the Three Villages, benefits the Stony Brook University School of Journalism, specifically a scholarship established in memory of Lee Lutz, late editor of the Three Village Times Beacon.

Participating restaurants include The Curry Club in East Setauket, Pace’s Steak House in Port Jefferson, Pentimento in Stony Brook and Bliss in East Setauket. See the full list here.

Tickets are $50 for admission and $100 for sponsorship; tickets can be purchased at the Holiday Inn Express at the door or in advance by calling 631-471-8000.

The Lee Lutz Memorial Scholarship was established by John Tsunis and is awarded to one School of Journalism student each year. The $4,000 scholarship is paired with a summer internship with the Times Beacon Record Newspapers. Lutz became editor of The Village Times Herald in March 2006 and later executive editor of the seven Times Beacon Record newspapers until his death from cancer in 2011. Candidates for this scholarship will be nominated in the spring semester by a committee consisting of faculty from the School of Journalism, and chosen by Times Beacon Record Newspapers.

This is the fourth year the fundraiser will be held. Previous recipients are Brittany Wait 2011, Erika Karp 2012, and Alyssa Melillo 2013.
