Celebrating with “Hubble 3D”

The Center for Communicating Science celebrated its official opening Sept. 23 with a program of events that included a sold-out exclusive benefit showing of the IMAX movie “Hubble 3D” at the AMC Loews theater in Stony Brook. “Hubble 3D” shows how shuttle astronauts fixed and refurbished the ailing space telescope through a dangerous space-walking rescue mission in 2009. It also includes spectacular journeys through the universe, based on Hubble images. Before the movie started, guests could play with two hands-on math toys provided by the Museum of Mathematics, which will be opening in Manhattan in 2012, and got a sample of astronaut ice cream.
