Senior journalism student Jie Jenny Zou has been accepted as one of 20 promising students into the annual Asian American Journalists Association conference which will be held in Detroit in August.

Zou will be part of a team that will get hands on training in mobile journalism and produce a newsletter, which will be handed out at the end of the conference.

The newsletter will cover the latest news about journalists, issues affecting the industry and the Asian American/Pacific Islander community

“I’m looking forward to not only learning more about the emerging trends in our trade as it struggles to define itself in a new and exciting digital age, but also meeting and working with other professionals and students in the field,” Zou said. “It’s a conference that brings together some of the most innovative minds in journalism and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

Zou is going to be a senior in the fall and is the Executive Editor of the campus’s online publication, the Stony Brook Independent.
