First Stony Brook Student to be named Chips Quinn Scholar

Carolina HidalgoRecent graduate Carolina Hidalgo has become the first Stony Brook student to be accepted into the Freedom Forum’s Chips Quinn Scholars program joining about 1,200 men and women who have been named scholars since 1991.

The program partners students with publications for 10- to 12-week paid internships. Hidalgo will be working at the the New York Daily News as a photography intern.

“It was like joining a big family and realizing you now have this big support system full of people who want to see you succeed,” Hidalgo said about the orientation program she recently completed. “It’s my first photo internship so I’m really excited to get started and see how it goes.”

While at Stony Brook, Hidalgo was the photo editor of the Stony Brook Press, the campus alternative paper and has had photos published in The New York Times.
