Michael A. Spikes is the Director of the Digital Resource Center for the Center for News Literacy. He began his work with News Literacy in 2010 as a participant in the Center’s Summer Institute For Teachers at Stony Brook University. At that time, Michael was a High School Teacher in the Washington DC Public Schools, teaching courses in Media Production, and as a Teacher Advisory Board Member of the Newseum.

After the Summer Institute, Michael spread parts of the course to other teachers in both the DC Public and Charter Schools system, and was invited back to Stony Brook in 2011 to speak at its spring conference. He joined the staff of the Center for News Literacy in 2012 to play a key role in the development of its new Digital Resource Center. He currently manages its day-to-day operations, and develops new technologies and content for the site. Also during his time with the Center, Michael has worked with its partners overseas in both Bhutan and Hong Kong.

Michael has also worked as a freelance videographer, radio and television producer, and digital audio and video editor for the past 15 years, working for various entities, and currently freelances as a producer for the “Insight in Person” podcast for the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

He is now based in Chicago, Illinois.
