Equipment Fee

The Newsroom provides students with top-quality equipment with which to perfect broadcast and multi-media skills. It is an expensive enterprise. Newsroom equipment is used by all Journalism majors.
Because of the cost to buy, maintain, repair and replace newsroom and field equipment, the School of Journalism assesses a special one-time fee of $100. The fee covers only a small portion of the cost of providing equipment for students to use in multimedia courses, including JRN 310, JRN 320, JRN 370, JRN 371, JRN 490 and others. The fee is assessed when students enroll in JRN 310 because JRN 310 is the first course in that upper-division multimedia sequence.
Minors are not charged the fee, unless they take JRN 310, because they take only one lower-level course that involves camera equipment.
