Visiting Stony Brook

Stony Brook University Admissions offers student-guided campus tours and information sessions during the academic year. We encourage all prospective students to sign up for these tours. You can sign up for the campus tours here.

Following your campus tour, you are more than welcome to visit the J-School’s Newsroom and sit in on a journalism class. You will receive a follow-up email to schedule a J-School visit after you register for your campus tour.

Scholarships – Dean’s Award

The School of Journalism Dean’s Award provides select incoming first-year, journalism majors with a four-year scholarship. Award amounts range from $4,000 to $6,000 per year.

To be eligible, students must:
1. Complete the Dean’s Award application;
2. Demonstrate high academic achievement;
3. Demonstrate a commitment to journalism through high school coursework, extra-curricular activities and/or internships.

The four-year scholarship is predicated on declaring and maintaining a journalism major in the School of Journalism. Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and full-time enrollment (12 or more credits per semester) as a matriculated undergraduate student in good standing. If found guilty of academic dishonesty or any other violation of the Student Conduct Code, a student will lose scholarship support.
