Stony Brook University journalism students embarked on the second Professional Friday trip of the semester last week with a visit to the headquarters of ProPublica and the New York Daily News.

In the morning students met with ProPublica’s editor-in-chief, Stephen Engelberg, who spoke about the state of the journalism business, and about the organization’s award-winning investigative journalism projects.

Later in the day, students visited the Daily News and were introduced to the director of business development, David Park, the managing editor for news, Robert F. Moore and video producer, Frank Posillico, who graduated from Stony Brook in 2013. There students learned about the Daily News’ commitment to cover New York while keeping up in today’s fast-paced news cycle.

Stay tuned for later this week when journalism students visit CBS News and Al Jazeera America.
