The Statesman has won countless awards from Newsday, the Society of Professional Journalists, the New York Press Association, Student Polity Association, and the Long Island Press Association for excellence in journalism, serving the public, news writing, feature writing, sports writing, campus contributions, layout and design.

The Statesman publishes new content online daily during the fall and spring semesters and a print component each Monday, with themed issues for campuswide events, elections and some holidays. Additionally, the Statesman emphasizes photo galleries, video and multimedia pieces on its website.

The Stony Brook Independent was founded in 2004 as the official publication of the Stony Brook University campus chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. It has since become an award-winning and complete news source for Stony Brook University while remaining, yes, independent. Alone among the university’s student-run media, the Independent accepts no subsidies from the Undergraduate Student Government’s activities fund.

The Independent gives readers the latest in campus news, arts, entertainment and sports in an online format exclusively. It has no print supplement.

The Stony Brook Press, a magazine, is published every other week. It serves as an open forum for students, covering news, features, arts and entertainment, humor, opinion and sports. Its investigative reports and incisive analyses inform the campus community, promote progress and incite debate.

Since 1977, WUSB-FM has served Stony Brook University’s campus and Long Island listening communities with a diverse broadcast mix of music, news, public affairs, drama and sports programming. Its 24-hour-a-day schedule is made possible by a volunteer staff efforts of more than 160 Stony Brook students, faculty, staff, alumni and community residents. Behind-the-scenes as well as on-air work, combined with a variety of nationally syndicated radio programs integrated into the schedule, creates the 168 hours per week of innovative and high-quality programming.
